Every engine on moQuart is listed with a Verification Tier. The tier tells you exactly what we have checked on that engine before you buy, so you can compare engines and decide how much risk you are comfortable with. The tier describes the checks we have done. It is not a guarantee of how the engine will perform.
Tier 1 - Documented
The engine is identified and photographed. We record the nameplate details and serial number and show the nameplate in the photos. The engine has not been started, run or opened, so its internal condition is unknown. Tier 1 engines are sold as is and priced accordingly.
Tier 2 - Inspected
Everything in Tier 1, plus a hands-on inspection by our team. We confirm the engine turns over by hand and is not seized. We check the oil and coolant for water or metal contamination, and look for cracks, leaks and missing major parts. Photos or video of the checks are included in the listing.
Tier 3 - Run-tested
Everything in Tier 2, plus the engine is started and run on video. We record what we observed, such as oil pressure, smoke, noise and leaks, in the Test results section of the listing, and the run-test video is linked on the page.
What every tier includes
The photos in each listing are of the actual engine you are buying. The serial number is recorded for every engine. Any known defects are listed on the page. If we have not tested something, we say so plainly.
